Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville women's soccer team had an offensive surge this past week as they scored seven goals in two games with one player playing a lead role in the team's success by scoring more than half of those goals.
Sophomore Marina Campbell had a career week for the women, netting four goals in two games and making a major impact on the offense. In the team's first game of the week against Medaille, Marina began the game by scoring her second goal of the season to give the team a 1-0 advantage. She then went on to add her second goal of the game just over 10 minutes later to give the team a 2-0 lead. With less than 15 minutes remaining in the game, Campbell completed her hat-trick and secure the 4-0 win over Medaille.
Carrying over her scoring prowess from the game on Wednesday, Marina scored her fourth goal in two games on Saturday against Mount Aloysius on a tap-in. In total, Campbell collected four goals for eight points, seven shots, and six shots on goal in four games. With her four goals in the past week, Marina is now tied for the team lead in goals with five and is second in points with 10.
As a freshman in 2016, Marina started all 17 games for the Spartans, including one in goal with three appearances. She tied for second on the team with two assists, adding 21 shots and eight shots on goal. Her 22 saves ranked second on the team as well. In addition to playing for the women's soccer team, Campbell is also a member of the D'Youville women's basketball team.
Marina attended Niagara Catholic High School where she played soccer, basketball, softball, and volleyball. Campbell was a standout on the soccer field, earning awards such as Niagara Catholic Female Athlete of the Year (2015 & 2016), 2x MVP, 4x First Team All-Catholic, News 4 Scholar Athlete, and NPAL Prep Athlete of the Year. In addition to her school team she also played for Black Watch Premier and Niagara PAL Travel.
At D'Youville, Marina is an ESS/DPT major. She is the daughter of Marre' and Frank Campbell.
Makeena Magee, Women's Soccer - Magee continued to establish herself as a top offensive player for the Spartans this past week. After picking up an assist on the second goal of the game, Makenna scored a goal of her own for a three-point performance. Following the 4-0 over Medaille on Wednesday. Magee played a direct role in each goal against Mount Aloysius on Saturday. She scored the first goal for the Spartans and assisted on the next two. Makenna currently leads the team in points (13) and shots (21) as well as is tied for first in goals (5) and assists (3).
Rachel Luczak, Women's Cross Country - Luczak had an excellent week for the women, helping them take home a first place finish at the Meghan Memorial, hosted by Hilbert College. Rachel took second overall for the women, the top spot for all D'Youville runners. Luczak's second overall finish was her second top-five finish of the season and she has finished with the best or second best time for the women in their four races this season.
