Buffalo, NY - Junior guard Monica June has been an important piece to the women’s basketball team's success this season, helping lead them to a 3-1 conference record.
Monica contributed nine points in the Spartan’s 68-50 win over Franciscan on Saturday. She added a rebound, an assist, and a steal in the team’s third conference win of the season.
Over the past several games, June has been a consistent all-around player. In five of the six games before Saturday’s matchup against the Barons, Monica had scored double-figures—including five games of at least a 40.0% FG%. She is averaging 3.0 RPG, 2.2 APG, and 1.0 SPG as well during that stretch.
This season, Monica is currently experience her highest scoring, rebounding, and assist totals while already reaching a career high in games started and minutes per game. Last season, June came into her own as a player by finishing fourth in scoring and third in assists, as well as steals. She scored in double-figures five times while also scoring in each game. The guard scored a career high of 14 points against Pitt.-Greensburg.
June graduated from Hutch Tech here in Buffalo. She played four years of basketball and was named MVP twice and First Team All-High once. She also ran track and field for four years.
A Nursing major, Monica is the daughter of Eula and Manning June.
Jordan Smith, Women's Basketball - Smith led the team in scoring in both of their games last week against Alfred State and Franciscan. She scored 17 points with three rebounds against Alfred State last Thursday in a non-conference matchup. On Saturday in the team's 68-50 win over Franciscan, Jordan led the team with 18 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and four steals as the women won their third conference game of the season.
