Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville softball team has had a very solid beginning to their season during their annual spring training trip in Clermont, FL.
Freshman Jackie Langer has made a major impact on the Spartan's lineup as the team has begun their season. Langer has been hitting the cover off the ball in Clermont, FL, beginning with the team's season opening 7-6 win over Juniata. Jackie went 2-3 with two runs scored, an RBI, and two stolen bases. Then on
Friday in a 9-5 win against St. Lawrence, Jackie went 3-4 with two runs scored, three RBI, and her first career home run. She scored runs in four games last week and had two multi-hit games, but also stole at least one base in four games.
In just the first week of games, Jackie leads the team in RBI (5), home runs (1), and stolen bases (5) while she is second in hits (7) and batting average (.500).
Prior to D'Youville, Jackie played club softball for the Pittsburgh Power and the Steel City Select. She is an Occupational Therapy major.
Ashley Carney, Softball - Carney picked up this season where she left off last season and continues to be an on-base machine. Through six games this season, AC has recorded a hit in all but one game, including three multi-hit games. Each of those multi-hit games came in wins as she went 2-2 with a run scored, an RBI, and two walks in the season opening 7-6 win against Juniata. She then went 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored in a 9-5 against St. Lawrence and then went 4-4 with a double, triple, two runs scored, and two RBI. She currently leads the team in batting average, hits, and is tied for second in RBI.
