Buffalo, NY - Junior tennis player Gillian Wittig had a string of top-notch performances this past week, going 2-1 as both a singles and doubles player.
Wittig began her week by winning her singles and doubles matches against Medaille on Thursday. Wittig played as the top singles player against the Mavericks, defeating their top player 6-3, 6-1. With her doubles partner Krista Cornell, the two defeated the top doubles pairing from Medaille 8-3 as Wittig helped earn two points for the Spartans on the day.
On Saturday against Penn State-Altoona, Gillian again helped earn two points for her team by competing as the top singles player and in the top doubles pairing. Wittig defeated the Lion's number one singles player 6-3, 6-1 and partnered again with Cornell to defeat the number one doubles pairing for Altoona 9-8, 7-3.
Gillian closed out the week by falling in both her single and doubles matches, but she is currently tied for the conference lead with three wins as a singles player. Overall she is 3-2 as a singles player and 2-3 as a doubles player this season.
A graduate of Depew High School, Wittig played six years of tennis, four years of track and field, and two years of basketball. As a tennis player, Gillian went to ECIC Sectionals from 2010-14. At D'Youville she is an International Business major.
She is the daughter of Tim and Denise Wittig.
