Buffalo, NY - Junior outfielder Ashley Carney had an outstanding week for the Spartans, tallying a hit in over half of her at-bats.
Carney began her week by going 3-6 with four runs scored, two RBI, and her first career home run in a road doubleheader against Brockport.
Back in conference play over the weekend, AC then followed up by going 4-4 in game one of the team's loss to Pitt.-Greensburg on Saturday, adding two RBI and a run scored. In game two she went 2-3 with another RBI and two walks in the nine-inning victory. Against Franciscan on Sunday in the 5-0 game one win, she went 3-4 while tallying a walk in game two.
In every game but two this season, Ashley has reached base safely. She currently leads the team with a .414 batting average (seventh in the AMCC), 24 hits, five doubles, 12 walks, is tied for first with one home run, and is second with 10 RBI.
As a sophomore last season, AC led team in batting average (.464), hits (51), and doubles (6), was tied tied for first in triples (4), second in RBI (20), runs scored (26), and on base percentage (.500), and tied for third in stolen bases (4). She finished second in the conference in batting average (.464), fourth in hits (51), tied for third in triples (4) and at seasons end was named an AMCC First Team All-Conference player. Carney also earned awards such as AMCC All-Tournament Team, AMCC Player of the Week, and the team's Most Valuable Player.
Her freshman season was also very successful as she led team in hits (37), batting average (.398), triples (4), and runs (17)/ Ashley also tied for second in steals (2) and doubles (3) while finishing fourth in RBI (9).
At Clarence High School, AC was an ECIC First Team and Second Team player as well as Defensive Player of the Year and an All-WNY Scholar-Athlete.
AC is a Nursing major and the daughter of April and John Carney.
