Athlete of the Week: Rylie Russo

Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville softball team finished their 2019 season with a pair of extra inning games.

Junior infielder Rylie Russo played a key role in the women's 6-4 victory over Pitt.-Bradford on Saturday morning that allowed the team to advance in the AMCC playoffs. Russo scored the first run of the game against the Panthers to give D'Youville a 1-0 lead. Then in the eighth inning, Russo drove in the game winning run with a two-RBI single as the Spartans won 6-4.

In total, Rylie went 3-5 with a run scored, two RBI, and a triple in the victory over Bradford. She also got the start a third base.

Russo shifted to third base this season after playing second as a freshman and sophomore. The junior didn't skip a beat as she posted career highs in hits (26), at-bats (104), doubles (5), and walks (6) as well. She also saw time at shortstop in several games.

In total, Rylie tallied 18 runs scored, three triples, 10 RBI, and three stolen bases. She was consistently hitting in the two-hole for the Spartans throughout the season.

Over her three year career, Russo has played in at least 28 games each season with at leats 84 at-bats. Every year Rylie has been incredibly consistent with at least 11 runs, 22 hits, three triples, 10, RBI, and two stolen bases.

At Frontier High School, Rylie played four years of softball and was an ECIC First Team member and a Scholar Athlete. She was alse a cheerleader for eight years.

Rylie is a Nursing major and the daughter of Jodi and Neal Russo.
