Buffalo, NY - Sophomore guard Devon Darrell had an incredible week for the D'Youville men's basketball team, helping lead the Spartans to three consecutive wins.
Against Pitt.-Bradford last Wednesday, Darrell scored six points with six assists in the team's 90-59 victory over the Bobcats for the team's first conference win of the season. He then followed up with a career high 22 points in the team's 94-87 win over Franciscan Saturday afternoon. Devon shot 63.6% from the field with five rebounds and five assists.
Saving his best performance for last, DD led the way for the Spartans as they took down the first place Pitt.-Greensburg Bobcats 98-82 on Monday afternoon. Darrell scored a career-high 24 points with 14 assists and eight rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. The 14 assists from Devon are tied for his career high. His impressive performance saw the sophomore go 10-14 from the field and 3-3 from three.
The sophomore now ranks second in the conference in assists and is second on the Spartans in scoring and field goal percentage. He has scored in double-figures in nine of 13 games this season and has scored 20 or more three times.
As a freshman in 2018-19, Darrell started every game in which he played for the men. He led the team in assists, was third in minutes, fourth in points, and fourth in field goal percentage. His impact on a veteran team was evident as the team reached the playoffs with him running the offense.
DD attended Lockport High School where be played basketball, football, and ran track. On why he chose D’Youville, DD said the program “felt like a brotherhood; felt like home.” He is in the Career Discovery program.
Devon is the son of Billie Darrell and Anthony Bennett.
