Buffalo, NY - Sophomore Lauren Karoglan turned in another very impressive week for the women's tennis team, helping push the women to a playoff victory.
Against Pitt.-Bradford on Saturday in the first round of the AMCC playoffs, Lauren and her doubles partner Alisson Meissner picked up an 8-2 doubles victory to earn one point in the 5-1 victory over the Panthers. In her singles match, Karoglan earned a second point with a 6-1, 6-0 singles victory in the number one singles position.
To begin the week on Tuesday against Houghton, Karoglan earned an 8-4 doubles victory and a 6-2, 7-5 singles victory against the Houghton Highlanders to end the regular season. With both of her impressive performances this past week, Lauren was named AMCC Player of the Week.
Karoglan ended the season with a 6-1 record in conference play with a 4-3 doubles record for the women. Throughout the season, Lauren has been one of the best players in the AMCC and one of the best SPartans. Her importance to the team in every match was unquestioned as she earned multiple points in eight matches this season.
As a freshman last season, Laruen played in all 13 matches and was the team's top singles player in each of them. Her singles record at the end of the season was 11-2 and she posted a 10-3 doubles record as part of the top doubles pairing for the women.
At Orchard Park High School, Lauren played five years of tennis. She was an ECIC and Section VI Doubles Champion, qualified for four consecutive NYS Championships, and was a 2016 Doubles Consolation Champion in Girl's NYS High School Tennis Championship.
Karoglan is a Nursing major and the daughter of Denise and Anton Karoglan.
Makenna Magee, Women's Soccer - Magee scored three goals in two games for the Spartans as they went 1-0-1 in conference play. Makenna scored two goals in the 8-0 win over Hilbert on Wednesday to then add the lone goal in the 1-1 double overtime tie on Saturday. Through six conference games, Magee has scored five goals. She was named the AMCC Offensive Player of the Week.
Kaylee Heschke, Women's Soccer - Heschke scored a pair of goals last week in two big games for the women, including one game winner. Kaylee scored the game-winning/first goal of the game in the 8-0 victory over Hilbert. She then added her second goal of the game nearly 10 minutes later while playing an outstanding game in the midfield. On Saturday, Heschke then played a big role in the midfield as the Spartans limited the conference's best teams to a 1-1 double overtime tie.
HsaKlo Moo, Men's Soccer - Moo tallied a pair of assists and was part of a team defense that allowed just two goals in regulation last week in games against Hilbert and Mount Aloysius. The two assists were the first two of his young career. He was named AMCC Defensive Player of the Week.
Ashley Len, Women's Bowling - Len took third overall at the Grapevine Classic over the weekend. She was the top bowler for D'Youville with an average of 185.20, .40 behind second and 1.40 behind first place. She paced the Spartans and had a high score over the weekend with a score of 214. She was also named to the All-Tournament Team.
