Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville women's cross country team placed first overall at the Meghan Memorial this past weekend with their top runner leading the way for them.
Junior Rachel Luczak had an outstanding weekend for the Spartans, finishing first overall with a time of 22:30 at the Meghan Memorial on Saturday. Her time was over a minute better than the next runner, showcasing her extremely strong effort in the race.
In addition to her first place finish, the Spartans as a whole finished first overall with a team score of 28 - 15 points better than the second place team. In the last four races, Rachel has been the top runner for the women and has been one of the top runners for the women throughout her career as a Spartan.
Saturday's result was no fluke for the junior as during her freshman season, Rachel finished second overall at the Meghan Memorial and was the team's top runner that day. Throughout her entire freshman season, Luczak finished as the top or second best D'Youville runner. As a sophomore last year, she again finished first or second in every race that she ran and she was named MVP her freshman season.
At Immaculata Academy, Rachel ran cross country for four years while also running indoor track and field for three years. For four additional years, Luczak ran four years of outdoor track and field.
Rachel is an Occupational Therapy major at D'Youville and the daughter of Rich and Janet Luczak.
Patrick Moran, Men's Cross Country - Patrick finished first overall at the Meghan Memorial and helped the team to a second place finish. Moran has finished first in every race in which he has run for the men this season and owns the 5k and 8k records for D'Youville.
