Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville women's basketball team got off to a big start on Saturday afternoon and were led by their youthful lineup.
Sophomore guard/forward Riley Riedel had an excellent start to the 2019-20 season for the Spartans this past Saturday as she led the team with 17 points and seven steals in the dominating 80-35 win over Wells Saturday afternoon. The sophomore went 6-10 from the field to go with 4-4 from the line as she scored a career high 17 points.
Riley added three rebounds, a block, and an assist while only tallying one foul through 21 minutes of action against the Express. Through one game this season, Riedel leads the team in PPG and SPG.
As a freshman in 2018-19, Riley missed most of the season due to injury. She played in five games, scoring in three of those games with nine, eight, and four point totals.
Riedel is also a member of the women's lacrosse team where she had a very successful freshman season. She finished the season first in caused turnovers (34) and ground balls (41), second on the team in draw controls (46), fourth in goals (23) and points (32), tied for fifth in assists (9). Her overall contribution to the team made her one of their best players and she was named NEAC Defensive Player of the Week once.
A Nursing major at D'Youville, Riley's older sister Jordyn is a member of the women's soccer team. She is the daughter of Gretchen Riedel.
