Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville men's basketball team got out to a pair of high-scoring affairs this past week, led by one of their returning scorers.
Junior forward Grant Beyer had a strong opening week for the Spartans, leading the team on the offensive end of the court multiple times. Beyer scored 23 points in the season opener against Fredonia last Tuesday in a three-point overtime loss. He shot 50% from three while adding three rebounds and two steals.
On Friday in the team's 92-83 win over Wells, Grant again led the team with 24 points as Beyer shot nearly 57% from the field as he played a crucial part in the team overcoming a late deficit and pulling out their first win of the season. On Saturday against RIT, Grant shot 50% from the field and grabbed two rebounds.
Through three games this season, Beyer leads the team with 17.3 PPG and is second with a 45.7 FG%. He is sixth in the conference in scoring thus far this season.
In his first season as a Spartan in 2018-19, Grant played in 24 games and started 21. He led the team in three-point percentage (40.7%), second in points (14.1 PPG), fourth in rebounds (3.9 RPG), and fifth in field goal percentage (42.0%).
His outstanding first season saw him record 16 games of double-figure scoring and record a career high 33 points. In conference play, Beyer finished the season sixth in scoring, fourth in free throw percentage (80.7%), and ninth in three-point percentage.
Through four years of high school, Beyer played four years of basketball where he was a two-time BCANY All-Star and a two-time PAL-ALE All-Star. He also played three years of football.
Grant is an International Business major and the son of Marybeth and Ronny Beyer.
