Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville women's soccer team advanced to the AMCC Semifinals on Saturday afternoon with a 2-1 win over Penn State-Altoona, but have been on a tear over the last month due in large part to the team's defense.
Freshman Sarah Milczarski continued to have an impressive first season with the women, capping off the regular season in style. Milczarski scored her first career goal in the 3-1 win over the Alfred State Pioneers last Tuesday, scoring the team's third goal of the game off a free kick header. On the defensive end, Sarah helped lead the defense to allowing just one goal with five shots on two shots on goal.
In Saturday's 2-1 AMCC first round playoff win over the Penn State-Altoona Lions, Sarah helped limit the lions to six shots on goal and one goal in the win. Sarah has started every game for the women this season and played nearly every minute.
Sarah's importance to the team has been clear with the Spartans recording five shutouts this season. In two of 17 games this season, the women have allowed more than two goals. Throughout their seven games, the women have allowed one or less goals as they are currently unbeaten in their last seven games. The freshman has been a massive part of one of the conference's best defenses.
