Buffalo, NY - Freshman forward Brigid McKeone of the D'Youville women's basketball team had a career game on Wednesday evening in the 45-36 win over Medaille, establishing herself as a key piece to the team moving forward.
McKeone led the team with 16 points and 11 rebounds - both career highs - for her first career double-double in the victory over the Mavericks. Brigid shot 7-8 from the field and four of her 11 rebounds came on the offensive end. She also added two assists and a steal in the win.
Wednesday's win was just Brigid's second career start as her importance role within the team has increased significantly in the last three game. Each of her last three games have been her three-highest amounts of playing time in her young career.
Brigid ranks fourth on the team with 6.2 PPG and is fifth with 3.8 RPG this season. Her consistency on shooting from the field and the line has been amongst the best of the team this season with a 62.5 FG% and a 70.6 FT%. She has two games of double-figure scoring this season with five games of playing double-digit minutes.
At Hamburg High School, Brigid played basketball, field hockey, and lacrosse. She earned the Director's Award, Most Outstanding Senior Award, and Hustle Award.
On why she chose D'Youville, McKeone said "All the players and coaches were very friendly off the bat. The nursing program is one of the best, and I was able to get direct entry to the program. It felt like home to me."
She is a Nursing major and the daughter of Jennifer and Christopher McKeone.
