Buffalo, NY - Junior Jake Kowalewski of the D'Youville men's soccer team played was a big factor in the team's two wins last week as the left back contributed on both ends of the field.
Jake has been an extremely valuable member of the team this season, starting all three games last week and all seven this season. In the 4-3 win over Wells on Tuesday, Jake had a solid all-around game form his left back position. He consistently helped drive offense down the left wing and stopped several dangerous scoring chances.
Kowalewski then opened the scoring against Alfred on Sunday with his second goal of the season - the goal that would end up being the game winner. Not only did he score the game winner, but Jake was part of a defense that shut out the Saxons.
D'Youville has allowed four goals in their three wins combined, two of which are shutouts. Despite playing left back, Jake has two game winning goals this season. His two game winners leads the team while his two goals overall are fourth on the team.
In each of his first two seasons as a Spartan, Kowalewski has been one of the team's best playmakers. He has had a share of the team lead as a freshman and sophomore with three assists each season, also adding a goal. His role has shifted the last two seasons from an attacking player to using his speed on the defensive end to not only stop scoring opportunities, but also get forward and generate offense.
At Attica High School, Jake played two years of soccer and was named Genesse Soccer Player of the Year in 2016. He also ran track and played club soccer for Lancaster FC.
Jake is a Biology/Physical Therapy major and the son of David and Mary Kowalewski.
