Three Spartans Named AMCC Players of the Week

Buffalo, NY - Three D'Youville student-athletes were named AMCC Players of the Week in their respective sports this past week for their standout performances.

Ashley Carney - Softball

For the second consecutive week, a D'Youville Spartan has been named AMCC Player of the Week. Sophomore Ashley Carney has continued to be one of the best players in the AMCC, picking up where she left off last season. In each of the four games last week, Carney recorded a hit, including going 2-4 in back-to-back games. She added a double, two runs scored, and two RBI throughout the week while hitting .462 and recording seven total bases.

In all but one game this season, Carney has recorded at least one hit. She leads the team in hits (16), doubles (2), batting average (.500), is second in runs (6), tied for second in RBI (6) and walks (3).

As a freshman, 'AC' was an AMCC Third Team All-Conference selection. She led team in hits (37), batting average (.398), triples (4), and runs (17). To begin the season, Carney had a 14-game hitting streak, including starting her career with a 4-4 performance. In addition to leading the team in several categories, she was tied for second in steals (2) and doubles (3) and was fourth in RBI (9).

Ryan Kilijanski - Men's Volleyball

Junior setter Ryan Kilijanski had an outstanding week, helping the Spartans earn a win on Saturday. On Wednesday against Penn State-Behrend, Ryan had 28 assists with nine digs and a service ace, narrowly missing a double-double. In the first match of the day against Wilson on Saturday, Ryan tied his season high with 48 assists and another nine digs in the 3-2 victory over Wilson, adding five kills and two blocks.

Then against Penn State-Altoona in the second game he tallied 39 assists to go with seven digs, four kills, and three service aces. Kilijanski is first in the AMCC in service aces and fourth in the conference in assists. On the Spartans roster, Ryan is first in assists, assists/set, service aces, and service aces/set. He also ranks fourth in digs, digs/set, blocks, and blocks/set.

As a sophomore in 2017, Kilijanski played in 22 matches (79 sets). He ranked second in kills (146) and kills/set (1.85), third in service aces (24) and service aces/set (0.30), fourth in blocks (24) and digs (100). In all three seasons with the Spartans, Ryan has played a different position. He began as a Libero in 2016, was an outside hitter in 2017, and is a setter in 2018.

Callan Smith - Women's Lacrosse

Senior defender Callan Smith had a very solid week for the Spartans, helping them earn their second win of the season. In the 17-14 win over Cazenovia on Tuesday, Callan led the team with nine ground balls and five caused turnovers in the win. She then added two ground balls in the team's 15-13 loss at Wells on Saturday.

Smith leads the team in ground balls (31) and caused turnovers (14) by more than double of the next player. She has recorded at least four ground balls in four of six games and recorded nine twice. Callan has also had three or more caused turnovers in half of the team's games.

Last season, Callan played in eight games, starting seven. She led team in ground balls (21), was second in caused turnovers (14), recorded three goals, eight draw controls, and 10 shots. At season's end, Smith was named an All-IWLS Second Team selection.
