Buffalo, NY - The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) announced their winners of the Male and Female Faculty Athletic Representatives (FAR) Award earlier this week, with two Spartans being named as 'best of the rest.'
Junior men's basketball forward Will VanAuken and junior women's tennis player Gillian Wittig were selected to the 'best of the rest' student-athletes for the FAR award for their outstanding contributions on the court and in the classroom. In order to qualify for the award, a student-athlete must be an All-Academic Team member, which both VanAuken and Wittig are. In fact, both Will and Gillian were named D'Youville Scholar-Athletes of the Year.
Will finished his junior year with a 3.989 GPA and graduated with his Bachelors in Exercise Sport Studies. He will continue at D'Youville as he works towards his Doctorate in Physical Therapy while he finishes his basketball career with the Spartans. He has been the recipient of the Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the past two years and was the team's Spartan Award winner this past season.
Not to be outdone, Gillian is also extremely successful in the classroom and in her sport. Witting recently finished her junior year in the International Business program with a 3.93 GPA and a share of the Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. Not only is she incredible with her studies, but Gillian has been named her team's most valuable player all three years of her playing career, including this past season.
The full list of award winners, as well as the best of the rest, can be found at the AMCC website.
