Fall Sports Schedules Released

Buffalo, NY - The 2018 fall sports calendar is taking shape for the eight D'Youville sports teams as each of their fall schedules have been released.

Men and women's soccer, along with women's volleyball, began practices last week while other sports are picking up with the semester beginning. The first day of competition for all sports is Friday, August 31.

 

Men & Women's Cross Country

Hoping to keep building off of the successes of last season, the men and women's cross country teams will have a total of six races beginning with the Buffalo State Invitational on Saturday, September 1. They then head out to Rochester and Geneseo at the Harry F. Anderson and the Geneseo Invitationals to conclude the month of September.

Both teams will come back to the Buffalo area as they participate in the Meghan Memorial, hosted by Hilbert College. The following weekend the team will take a trip out to the Cross Country only Championship.

The Spartans will end their season at the AMCC Championship on October 27.

Women's Tennis

With an influx of young talent, the women's tennis team start off their season with a non-conference home match against Fredonia at the Miller Tennis Center on Friday, August 31. The Spartans then follow with three conference away matches at Penn State-Behrend, Penn-State Altoona and Mount Aloysius.

The team will enter a tough part of their schedule as they play four conference matches in the stretch of a week against Medaille, Pitt.-Bradford, La Roche, and Pitt-Greensburg - all at home.

The team will finish up the season with four consecutive away matches, ending with a match at Medaille on October 5.

Golf

The golf team will tee-off this season with a pair of conference matches, beginning at the Pitt-Bradford Invitational on Saturday, September 1 and the Medaille Invitational on Monday, September 10. The team will then face off at two more conference tournaments throughout the season at Hilbert and Penn State-Behrend. Keuka is the lone non-conference match on the schedule for the team as they play at the Keuka Invitational on Wednesday, September 12.

On Monday, September 24 the team will be hosting their Spartan Shootout at the Niagara Frontier Golf Club. The season will coming to a close on Monday October 8 after finishing a two day tournament for the AMCC Championship.

Women's Crew

Coming off a promising spring season, the women's crew team will begin the fall portion of their season with the Challenge on the Heuron hosted by William Smith College on Saturday, September 29. They will also be facing off at the Head of the Genesee on October 6, at St. John Fisher on October 20 and will be finishing up their season at the Head of the Fish or Head of the Schuylkill on October 27.

The Spartans will be hosting the Head of the Niagara on Sunday, October 14 at the West Side Rowing Club to break up their schedule.

With adding many new and young rowers to the team, they look forward to starting the new season.

Men's Soccer

Following a playoff season in 2017, the men's soccer team looks to get back to the postseason in 2018.

Beginning on Saturday, September 1, the men will open their season on the road at Utica. They follow with a pair of road games at Fredonia and Nazareth to close out the first week of the season.

The home portion of the calendar will kick up for the Spartans starting on Thursday, September 13 as they host Alfed State at 7:00pm and go on to host the following three games of their schedule. Of those four consecutive home games, the conference opener for the men comes on the back-end of their home-stand on Saturday, September 22 against Penn State-Altoona.

Two games on the road against conference opponents will break up the Spartan's schedule but they are back home on Wednesday, October 3 as they host cross-town rival Medaille. That is the first of another four-game stand of home games for D'Youville.

A road game against Franciscan will end the team's regular season road schedule as they return home on Tuesday, October 23 to face Penn State-Behrend in the regular season finale.

Women's Soccer

A successful season in 2017 saw the women's soccer team reach the second round of the AMCC playoffs and the team will be determined to return to the postseason this season.

The second annual Spartan Classic will kick-off the season for the women, hosting Waynesburg on Friday, August 31 at 5:30pm and then Potsdam the next day at 12:00pm. Three road games follow for the women, including two at the Blue Devil Classic the following weekend.

On the back-end of a three-game home stretch, the Spartans will begin their conference schedule with Penn State-Altoona on Saturday, September 22. The women's schedule will mirror the men's during conference play, including three consecutive home games against Pitt.-Greensburg, Hilbert, and Mount Aloysius. However the women will have a fourth straight home game as they host non-conference Alfred University on Wednesday, October 17.

A road game against Franciscan will end the team's regular season road schedule as they return home on Tuesday, October 23 to face Penn State-Behrend in the regular season finale.

Women's Volleyball

A third playoff team from 2017, the women's volleyball program is under new leadership in 2018 and aims for the playoffs once again.

To set-off the season, the Spartans will participate in the Red Dragon Classic at Cortland on Friday, August 31 and Saturday, September 1. They face the host Cortland Red Dragons to begin the tournament, facing Keene State, Lebanon Valley, and Oneonta throughout the remainder of the weekend.

A match against Buffalo State on Wednesday, September 5 is the first home match for the women, followed by a home match against St. John Fisher on Tuesday, September 11 the following week. The team will travel to away tournaments at Allegheny, Penn State-Behrend, and Oswego.

The first conference match of the season for D'Youville comes against local rival Hilbert on Wednesday, September 26. Four road matches are in store for the Spartans at the beginning of October before a two-for-one on Saturday, October 20 where the women host Franciscan and Alfred State beginning at 1:00pm.

To end the season, the Spartans will face Medaille on the road on Wednesday, October 24 and then host La Roche on Saturday, October 27 to close out their regular season schedule.
