The Week Ahead: D'Youville Athletics 1/20/19 - 1/26/19

Buffalo, NY - The month of January continues to roll on as the D'Youville men and women's basketball teams both come off big conference wins into the new week. After their first tournament of the season was canceled due to weather, the men's volleyball team gears up for their first tournament of the season. Softball, baseball, and women's lacrosse all get their seasons started as they begin practice.

 

Women's Basketball

Monday, January 21 @ Pitt.-Greensburg - 1:00pm

  • D'Youville faces off against the Bobcats for the second time in three days as the Spartans defeated Greensburg 91-87 in overtime on Saturday afternoon
  • All five starters scored in double-figures for the Spartans against the Bobcats on Saturday in the comeback win
  • Both teams sit at 4-5 in conference play, but D'Youville holds the tiebreaker on head-to-head record

Saturday, January 26 @ La Roche - 2:00pm

  • D'Youville resume action after a four-day off period
  • La Roche defeated the Spartans at home in their previous meeting by the score of 82-70
  • The Redhawks currently sit first in the AMCC with an 8-1 record and the leading scorer in the conference

 

Men's Basketball

Monday, January 21 @ Pitt.-Greensburg - 3:00pm

  • D'Youville won in impressive fashion over Greensburg in their last game on Saturday, defeating the Bobcats 105-72
  • The Spartans had five players score in double-figures in the victory
  • A win would give the Spartans their fourth win in their last five conference games

Wednesday, January 23 @ Alfred State - 7:00pm

  • D'Youville took the lone meeting against Alfred State in double overtime last season 114-105
  • Simeon Heard scored a career high 35 points with four other players scoring in double-figures
  • Alfred State has an 8-8 record this season, losing each of their last three games 
  • The Pioneers have lost to AMCC opponents Hilbert and Penn State-Behrend this season
  • In the fall of 2019, Alfred State will be joining the AMCC as the conference's eleventh full-time member

Saturday, January 26 @ La Roche - 4:00pm

  • La Roche took the first meeting of the season 82-70 in December
  • The Redhawks have a perfect 9-0 record in conference play this season
  • D'Youville shot a higher percentage from three and the line in the previous meeting between the two teams

 

Men's Volleyball

Friday, January 25 vs. Wells - 2:00pm  (@SUNY Poly) / vs. Nazareth - 6:00pm (@ SUNY Poly)

  • The men will open up their season after their first tournament at Bard was canceled due to weather
  • D'Youville fell to Wells 3-0 last season while both teams were members of the NEAC
  • Wells took second place in the NEAC last season
  • Nazareth defeated the Spartans 3-0 last season

Saturday, January 26 vs. Pratt - 11:00am (@ SUNY Poly) / vs. SUNY Poly - 3:00pm

  • The Spartans take on Pratt for the first time in program history
  • SUNY Poly took down the Spartans 3-0 last season as NEAC conference members
  • The Wildcats took third place in the NEAC last season

 

Spring Sports Practicing

  • D'Youville softball, baseball, and women's lacrosse all begin practice for their 2019 seasons
  • Softball comes into 2019 after a playoff appearance in 2018
  • Baseball is under new leadership as Kyle McLain takes over for his first year as head coach of the Spartans
  • Women's lacrosse enters the new season after winning their first four games in program history
  • The Spartan's women's lacrosse program enters the NEAC for their first season of conference competition
