D'Youville Athletics Week in Review: 1/20/19 - 1/26/19

Buffalo, NY - Nearing the end of January, men and women's basketball are coming into more and more important games as the playoff picture takes shape. The men's volleyball team began their season and picked up their first victory while baseball and softball start practice. 

 

Women's Basketball

  • Record during the week - 0-2 AMCC
    • Overall record 7-11, 4-7 - seventh in the AMCC
  • Monday, January 21 - Pitt.-Greensburg - 80, D'Youville 70 - Overtime
    • A tough overtime loss for the Spartans on the road after a solid overtime win against the Bobcats days before. Greensburg came back at the end of the game to tie it and take the game to OT, eventually going on to defeat the Spartans.

  • Saturday, January 26 - La Roche - 78, D'Youville - 67
    • Another close game for D'Youville as they were tied with the first-place Redhawks late in the game. La Roche just had too much firepower for the Spartans to overcome.

Men's Basketball

  • Record during the week - 0-2 AMCC, 0-3 overall
    •  Overall record - 7-11, 5-6 - sixth in the AMCC
  • Monday, January 21 - Pitt.-Greensburg - 77, D'Youville - 70
    • Following their blowout victory over the Bobcats two days prior, Greensburg got revenge in a close battle. The Spartans struggled offensively and made it a close game towards the end, but couldn't get all the way back.

  • Wednesday, January 23 - Alfred State - 79, D'Youville - 76
    • A tough non-conference loss for the Spartans as the men were close to pulling out the victory against the Pioneers. Alfred State will be a full-time member of the AMCC beginning in the fall of 2019.

    • The first place Redhawks and reigning conference champs were very strong throughout the game. They show over 47% from three and over 49% from the line in the victory.

  • Friday, January 25 - Nazareth - 3, D'Youville - 0
    • Another tough match to begin the season for D'Youville. The Golden Flyers played a strong match that the Spartans could not recover from.

    • First win of the season for the Spartans in very impressive fashion. D'Youville put together three strong sets over the Cannoneers.

    • A second match against a former NEAC foe, the Spartans put up a huge effort in the first set; taking it to extra points. The next two matches would be hard fought but SUNY Poly would come out on top.
