D'Youville SAAC Works with AMCC to Provide Warm Clothes for Those in Need

Buffalo, NY - Student-Athlete Advisory Committees (SAAC) throughout the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) are all working together this winter to combat the cold and help those who may be less fortunate.

As part of the SAAC for Socks campaign, all AMCC SAACs are joining together in a community service campaign to collect winter socks, gloves, and hats to donate to local homeless shelters across the region. Socks are an extremely high-need item for homeless people, especially during the winter months, when there is the risk of frostbite. Homeless people often have shoes but no socks, and the danger often goes unnoticed until it is too late. While men's warm socks tend to be a high-need item, donations of socks, hats and gloves for any gender, any age are all very welcome. (courtesy of the AMCC website)

The D'Youville SAAC will be putting forth their SAAC for Socks event on Wednesday, January 30 as they host the Medaille Mavericks for their second Buffalo Cup basketball meeting of the 2018-19 season. The D'Youville women will host Medaille at 6:00pm in the College Center Gym while the men will play the Mavericks at 8:00pm. At the event, you can help contribute to the cause in several ways:

  • Raffle of $50 Visa gift card at halftime of both the men and women's games
  • $2 per raffle ticket / $5 for an arms length
  • Each donated item (hats, gloves, socks, etc.) will be worth one raffle ticket
  • Every individual that donates money or a piece of clothing will receive a paper sock to write their name on

All donations from Wednesday's game will go to the Buffalo City Mission.
