Today we want to salute our Men’s Volleyball Seniors. First is senior Setter from Lockport, NY, Karl Jauch. Karl will be graduating with a degree in Nursing from D’Youville. He was a member of the All AMCC Sportsmanship Team in the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
Academically, Karl earned his place on the AMCC Academic All-Conference Team in the 2016-2017 season. Also, in the 2016-2017 season, Jauch was awarded the Spartan Award by his teammates and coaches. This award highlights his hard work, dedication, sportsmanship, and Spartan-like leadership. Coach Krueger saw him as a leader that will be missed stating, ““Karl led by example and would always come into the gym ready to work his tail off. He was definitely a believer in first man in, last man out and his devotion to D'Youville Men’s Volleyball will be sorely missed.” Below, you will find Jauch’s athletic success throughout his four years as a Spartan.
2020: Finished 5th in the AMCC with 5.77 Assists/Set in 2020. Karl saw a huge improvement in his blocking in 2020, blocking 0.41 balls a set, nearly doubling his 2019 total and his 6 of 9 career solo blocks took place in this season's abbreviated campaign. He finishes his career with 901 assists, despite only being the team's full-time setter his last two seasons.
2019: Played in 23 matches (83 sets); First in service aces per set (.30), assists per set (6.89), assists (572), service aces (25); Fourth in digs per set (1.18), digs (98)
2018: Played in 22 matches (77 sets); Recorded 20 kills, 53 digs, five blocks, and nine service aces
2017: First season as a Spartan; Played in 15 matches (47 sets); Recorded 19 kills, 26 digs, and six blocks
Our second senior is the Cheetowaga, NY native, Devon Camel. Devon was a greenhorn to the program this year. He stepped in to support the program when Coach Krueger called for some reinforcements. Devon dedicated his fifth year of study at D’Youville to competing with the Men’s Volleyball program. Camel is completing his Master in Business Administration at D’Youville. He first came to D’Youville to compete on our Men’s Basketball Program. He was a great success and leader on the 94 foot court. His transition to the 59 foot court provided great stability to Coach Krueger’s roster.
Although the season was cut short Coach Krueger saw promise in Camel stating, “I think Dev's willingness to learn something completely new and really run with it so soon helped our team through the transition of my first year as the Spartan’s Head Coach. We wish we had more time to work with Dev but are happy to have had the opportunity to coach him and have him as part of our program.”
As a department, we want to wish Karl and Devon the best of luck in their future endeavors and thank them for their dedication to the D’Youville Men’s Volleyball Program and D’Youville Athletics.
