Baseball Stopped by SUNY Canton 9-6

West Seneca, NY-The D'Youville College baseball team got to finally play at home and the Spartans were defeated by SUNY Canton 9-6 in a single nine-inning non-conference matchup.

The visitors jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the top of the second. Three Spartan errors led directly to three runs.

D'Youville starter Jordan Ianarelli (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) would rebound after the second inning and only allow one run on two hits over the next three innings

D'Youville would answer with a big inning of their own. Charlie Biddle (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis) smacked a two-out three-run homer over the left field fence and the Spartans trailed 5-3. This is the second-straight game Biddle has drove in two or more RBI.

The Spartans tacked on two more in the fourth after Jeff Spors (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) hit a two-run double. Spors had a big game at the plate going four for five with a pair of doubles and three RBI D'Youville trailed 6-5.

Canton scored twice in the fifth and tacked on a solo homer in the seventh to lead 9-5. The Spartans added a run on an RBI single from Spors and that made it a 9-6 final.

D'Youville rapped out 11 hits in the game but only three after the fourth inning.

Garratt Kerr (London, Ontario/Regina Mundi) went 2-4 with a double and two runs scored.

D'Youville and SUNY Canton are back at it tomorrow (April 12) with a doubleheader at Veterans Memorial Park in West Seneca. Start time is at noon.
