Lions Go Long Ball to Defeat Spartans

West Seneca, NY-Visiting Penn State Altoona used the big fly to hand D'Youville a pair of losses in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play.

Already up 6-0, an Altoona grand slam over the left field fence in the top of the seventh pushed the margin to 10-0. D'Youville answered with their only productive inning of the day. The Spartans scored six runs on six hits to make it a 10-6 final score. Up to that point, the Spartans had generated only two hits in the first six innings.

Charlie Biddle (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis) hit an a two-run double and Kyle Taylor (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) added an RBI single. Eric Simoncelli (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) started the frame with a double.

Game two saw Penn State Altoona hit four home runs, all of them over the left field fence, and Spartans bats stay silent. D'Youville totaled just three hits and the Lions won game two 8-0.

Jeff Spors (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) went 2-3 in game one and 1-3 in game two to extend his hitting streak to six games.

Jordan Ianarelli (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) threw two and two-thirds scoreless relief in the second game.

D'Youville is scheduled to play Penn State Behrend April 15 on the Spartans' home diamond at Veterans Memorial Park in West Seneca, New York. Start time is slated for 3:00 p.m.
