Buffalo, NY – The D'Youville baseball team suffered a doubleheader loss on Saturday afternoon to the Pitt.-Greensburg Bobcats by the scores of 4-0 and 17-3.
Greensburg would score two runs in the top of the second inning to get out to an early lead. They would add a run in each the sixth and seventh innings to extend their lead to four. The D'Youville bats collected more hits than Greensburg, but were unable to cross the plate with a run and would lose the game 4-0.
Dan Fox (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) continued his season-long stretch of solid pitching. Over seven innings, Fox allowed four hits for no earned runs and struck out three. Khaled Numan-Ali (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) led the team with two hits.
In game two, the Bobcats would pour on the offense. They would score runs in every inning but two for a total of 17. The Spartans would get several runs back in the eighth inning.
Numan-Ali led off the inning with a single. He would advance to third in the next at-bat as Dylan Haak (Depew, NY/Depew) reached second on an error by the Greensburg left fielder. Thomas Brummer (Amherst, NY/St. Joe's) loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch. With a passed ball in the next at-bat, every runner would advance; including Numan-Ali scoring for the team's first run. Eric Simoncelli (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) would then single, scoring Haak followed by a sac-fly from Travis Macrides (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) to score the team's third run. Greensburg would go on to win the game by the final of 17-3.
Haak and Brummer each had two walks in the game, with Simoncelli leading the team with two hits. Three other players recorded a hit for D'Youville.
The next game for the men will be on Tuesday, April 26th at 3pm as the team will travel to Keuka for one, nine-inning game.
