Winter Haven, FL - The D'Youville baseball team concluded their time in sunny Florida Friday afternoon as they fell to the Chicago Maroons 13-1.
D'Youville drew first blood in the game, scoring a run in the top of the second. Shortstop Travis Macrides (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) led of the inning with a single, followed by a single from catcher Patrick Mulligan (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech) to move Macrides to second. Two batters later, Mitchell Mason (Eden, NY/Eden) singled to right field, scoring Macrides and making the score 1-0.
In the bottom of the inning, Chicago would get the run back and make the score 1-1. The Maroons would tack on runs in each of the next four innings to build a 13-1 lead over the Spartans, going on to win by the same score of 13-1.
Freshman Justin Uhteg (Arcade, NY/Pioneer) had his longest outing of the season, going 5.1 innings and striking out two. Sean Corp (Clay, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) made his second appearance of the season, going 0.2 innings, allowing one hit. Dylan Haak (Depew, NY/Depew) continued to hit well, leading the team with two. Macrides, Mulligan and Mason all added one hit each.
The next pair of games for the men come on Sunday, March 26 as they travel to Wells. The doubleheader begins at 12pm, with the second game immediately to follow.
