Greensburg, PA – The D'Youville baseball team lost to the host Pitt.-Greensburg Bobcats on Sunday afternoon, falling in game one 7-0 and 11-7 in game two.
The Bobcats put a run on the board in each of the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead. They added five runs in the bottom of the fifth, giving themselves a 7-0 lead, which would end up being the final score.
Shortstop Travis Macrides (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) led the team with three hits in the game while three other players each had a hit. Kevin Kabacinski (Buffalo, NY/St. Joe's) and Justin Uhteg (Arcade, NY/Pioneer) combined to pitch six innings, with Kabacinski striking out three over five innings and Uhteg pitching an inning, allowing no runs or hits.
Greensburg again took the lead early in game two, scoring five runs the bottom of a first. However the Spartans would pull to within two in the top of the third.
Back-to-back singles from Brendan Burke (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford) and Michael LiPani (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) led off the third, and both advanced a base in the next at-bat. With runners on second and third, Dylan Haak (Depew, NY/Depew) hit a sac-fly to center, scoring Burke and making the game 5-1. Mitchell Mason (Eden, NY/Eden) then hit a double down the left field line, scoring LiPani and made the game 5-2. The Spartan's scoring would be capped off with a Justin Brackna (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) single, scoring Mason and making it a 5-3 game.
In the bottom of the third inning and fourth innings, the Bobcats scored runs to make the game 7-3 in favor of Pitt.-Greensburg. They would then tack on three more runs in the bottom of the seventh, making the score 10-3.
D'Youville would have their biggest inning of the day in the top of the eighth. Mason led off the inning with a hit by a pitch and then moved to second on an error by the pitcher. Brackna then singled, scoring Mason. In the next at-bat, Macrides singled to put runners on first and second.
Back-to-back walks to Burke and Kabacinski loaded the bases and then forced in Brackna to make the game 10-5. Josh Hammer (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) then pinch hit and doubled down the right field line to score Burke and Macrides, pulling the Spartans to within three at 10-7.
However, the Bobcats would add a run in the bottom of the inning to expand their lead to four, going on to win the game by the final 11-7.
Brackna led the team in hits with three, while Mason and Burke scored two runs each. Seven different Will Pack (Pendleton, NY/Starpoint) started the game, allowing five earned runs over four innings. Tyler Siegmann (Wheatfield, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) also went four innings, allowing four earned runs.
The next doubleheader for the Spartans comes on Tuesday, April 25 as D'Youville hosts Keuka at 2 and 4:30pm.
