West Seneca, NY – The D'Youville baseball team lost a doubleheader to the Mount Aloysius Mounties Saturday afternoon by the final scores of 14-0 and 13-5.
Mount Aloysius broke the scoreless tie in the top of the second with a run. They then added three runs in the top of the third for a 4-0 lead, but the Mounties broke the game open with nine runs in the top of the sixth to lead 13-0. With another run in the top of the seventh, Mount Aloysius would bring the score to its final at 14-0.
In game number two, the Mounties began the scoring in the top of the second with four runs. The Spartans would then answer in the bottom of the second with two runs of their own. Critelli led off with a walk, followed by a double from Kevin Kabacinski (Buffalo, NY/St. Joe's). Brendan Burke (Collegeville, NY/Spring-Ford) then singled; scoring Critelli for D'Youville's first run. Next up, Josh Hammer (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) reached on a fielder's choice to score Kabacinski and cut the Mounties' lead in half.
The Spartans would again chip away at their deficit in the bottom of the next three innings. LiPani led off with a double, followed by a Justin Brackna (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) double to score LiPani and make the score 4-3. In the bottom of the fourth, Kabacinski reached on a passed ball. Moving to third in the next two at-bats, Dylan Haak (Depew, NY/Depew) singled in Kabacinski to tie the game at 4-4.
Following a two-run top of the fifth, the Spartans answered right back in the bottom of the inning. Macrides began with a single, moving to second on a Critelli hit by pitch. Two batters later, Kabacinski came up and singled, scoring Macrdies and bringing the deficit to one.
However the scoring for the Spartans would stop there. Mount Aloysius added seven runs in the final three innings to win by the final score of 13-5.
Four different players had multiple hits in the game. Haak, Macrides, Kabacinski and Burke each recorded two hits to lead the team. Pitcher Will Pack (Pendleton, NY/Starpoint) turned in another solid start, allowing three earned runs over six innings.
The final doubleheader of the season for D'Youville comes this Tuesday, May 2 at Alfred State. Game one begins at 1pm with game two to follow.
