Olean, NY – The D'Youville baseball team played a close conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon but ultimately fell to the Alfred State Pioneers by the scores of 5-4 in game one and 6-3 in game two.

Travis Macrides (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) led off the top of the second inning of game one with a double and was driven in two batters later by Patrick Mulligan (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech) for the first run of the game and a 1-0 D'Youville lead. Macrides came to bat for the second time in as many innings and singled to left field, driving in Kelly and Haak to give the Spartans a 3-0 lead after three innings.

Alfred State didn't score their first run until the sixth inning as they trailed 3-1. D'Youville was able to maintain their lead through the bottom of the seventh with two outs. However with a runner on first, the Pioneers hit a two-run home run to tie the game and push the game to extra innings.

Varney was then hit by a pitch two batters later to load the bases.
