Depew, NY - Wednesday, May 2 marked a day of celebration and recognition for all of D'Youville's student-athletes at the yearly Athletics Awards Banquet at Salvatore's Italian Garden.
Head coach Leo Dandes presented the awards to the Male Athlete of the Year.
Senior first baseman Travis Macrides (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) of the D'Youville baseball team wrapped up his time as a D'Youville Spartan this season after a historic senior year. His outstanding career and season earned him the honor of Male Athlete of the Year.
Travis saved the best season of his career for last. He led the team in RBI (31), triples (3), home runs (4), stolen bases (7), and tied for first in runs scored (21) while was tied for second in doubles (7), third in batting average (.326), and hits (31). In addition to earning the Male Athlete of the Year award, Macrides was named the Most Valuable Player of the baseball team and an AMCC Third Team All-Conference first baseman.
With many records broken this season, Travis is considered as one of the best to ever put on a uniform for D'Youville baseball. He set the program record for hits, doubles, RBI, RBI in a season, and total bases while ranking second in home runs. This season Macrides shifted from shortstop and had his best career fielding percentage at .983 and had just four errors at first base.
Macrides has tirelessly worked over his four years as a Spartan and set himself up for success. As a team captain, he also was a leader on the field and a great friend off it.
