Central Takes Down D'Youville in SIngle Game

Auburndale, FL – The D'Youville baseball team suffered a defeat on Sunday morning, falling to the Central Dutch 12-1.

Central jumped on the Spartans early in the game, hanging five runs on the board in the top of the first. The Spartans answered back in the bottom of the inning as Justin Varney (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) walked, followed by a Renato Quinones (Lockport, NY/Saint Joe's) bunt single. In the next at-bat, Alex Liem (Dorchester, Ont./Dorchester Secondary) walked to load the bases. Connor Truitt (Rochester, NY/Early College) would then come to bat and hit a sac-fly to center, scoring Varney to make the score 5-1 after one.

Over the next several innings, the Dutch would tack on seven more runs to lead 12-1 after six. The team would then go on to win by the same score.

Haak got the start on the mound, going five innings with two strikeouts. Adam Lampman (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) came in for an inning of relief and Derek Mosher (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) came in for one inning, allowing no hits and struck out two.

At the plate, Haak and Quinones each had a hit with Varney tallying two walks. Three other players including Shane Critelli (Camden, NY/Camden), Liem, Truitt, and Matt Guenther (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) recording one each.

The next game for the men comes tomorrow, March 18 as they play one, nine-inning game against Minnesota Morris at 4:30pm.
