Baseball Closes out Florida Trip against McDaniel

Clermont, FL – The D'Youville baseball team closed out their spring training trip in Florida on Thursday morning, falling to the McDaniel Green Terror by the final score of 17-1.

McDaniel began the game with eight runs in the bottom of the first to take a commanding lead. D'Youville would answer back in the top of the second as Connor Truitt (Rochester, NY/Early College) led off the inning with a single through the left side. Two batters later, Nick Jank (Orchard Park, NY/Canisius) doubled down the left field line to move Truitt to third. Brendan Burke (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford) would then come to bat, grounding out to the shortstop but scoring Truitt for an 8-1 game.

The Green Terror would then score five in the third, four in the fourth, and one in the sixth to reach their total of 17 runs. Unfortunately for the Spartans, they were unable to overcome their early deficit to lose 17-1.

Truitt and Jank led the team with two hits each. Matt Guenther (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) and Kevin Sanders (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech) each tallied hits in the game as well.

Derek Mosher (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) got the start, going 3.0 innings. Dylan Haak (Depew, NY/Depew) allowed no runs in 3.0 innings of relief, striking out one.

The next game for D'Youville will come on Wednesday, March 27 as they open their conference season against Medaille. Game one of the doubleheader begins at 1:00pm.
