D'Youville Falls to Mount Aloysius on the Road

Cresson, PA – The D'Youville baseball team suffered a pair of losses to the Mount Aloysius Mounties on Saturday by the final scores of 12-0 and 17-1.

Following a scoreless first inning in game one, the Mounties scored eight runs through the next three innings. They were held without a run in the fifth and would then close out the game with four runs in the sixth and seventh combined to win the game 12-0.

Dylan Haak (Depew, NY/Depew) led the team with one hit, followed by Justin Varney (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) with two. Matt Critelli (Camden, NY/Camden) got the start in game one, pitching 3.0 innings and allowing just two earned runs. Brendan Burke (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford) came in for 3.0 innings of relief, allowing just two hits and three earned runs. Connor Truitt (Rochester, NY/Early College) and Matt Guenther (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) combined to pitch the last inning.

Game two didn't work out much better for the Spartans. A scoreless first inning led to Mount Aloysius scoring 11 in the next four. D'Youville would score their lone run of the game in the sixth as Devon Kelly (Rochester, NY/Olympia) reached base after getting hit by a pitch. He would advance to second and then third over the next two at-bats to then score on a wild pitch.

The Mounties would respond with four more runs in the next innings and two in the ninth on their way to a 17-1 final in game two.

Varney tallied a hit with Renato Quinones (Lockport, NY/Saint Joe's) picking up one as well. Derek Mosher (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) pitched 4.0 innings in the start as Nick Jank (Orchard Park, NY/Canisius) pitched 2.2 innings in relief. Shane Critelli (Camden, NY/Camden) continued to pitch well as he went 1.1 innings, allowing two hits and no earned runs as he struck out one batter. Alex Liem (Dorchester, Ont./Dorchester Secondary) also pitched one inning in relief.

The next doubleheader for the Spartans comes this Tuesday, April 2 as they host the Hilbert Hawks beginning at 1:00pm.
