Spartans, Schunk Score First Victory of the Season

Buffalo, NY (11/30/11) – The Spartans men's basketball team won their first conference game of the year, beating Pitt-Bradford 68-57. It was the Spartans first win of the season and head coach Earl Schunk's first career win with the Spartans. The Spartans were led by Raysean Johnson (Buffalo, NY/Grover Cleveland), who had 22 points in the contest.

Greg Osika (Depew, NY/Depew) had 13 points and a game-high five steals. Jake Maryniewski (Depew, NY/Depew) had a game-high six assists and added two steals and three rebounds.

Prior to the start of the game, junior Patrick Coyle (North Chili, NY/Bishop Kearney) was honored with a plaque commemorating last season when he led the nation in blocked shots. Coyle scored five points and had a team-high 12 rebounds and seven blocks in the contest.

The Spartans (1-4, 1-0) return to action Saturday at Mt. Aloysius, another AMCC opponent. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
