Men's Basketball Wrap Up West Coast Trip With Loss

Walla Walla, WA - For the second straight day the D'Youville Men's Basketball Team faced off against a nationally ranked opponent as D'Youville fell to Whitman by the score of 129-88.

The Whitman offense had a very strong first half as they scored 71 points to D'Youville's 46. The second half saw similar production from the D'Youville offense scoring 42, and the Whitman offense was strong once again scoring 57 points.

Senior captain Julian Reed (Cheektowaga, NY/Union-Endicott) led the Spartans in scoring with 24 points. He added 4 blocks and 9 rebounds to his stats, 1 away from double-double. Sophomore Matt Insley (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) added 14 points, shooting 3-5 from behind the arc. 

Junior Jon Gemerek (Cheektowaga, NY/Depew) contributed in several areas to the team. With 14 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists, Gemerek played a solid all around game, leading the team in steals and tied for the team lead in assists. Freshman Steve Kunelius (Oswego, NY/Oswego) added 10 points, going 3-7 from the field.

The D'Youville Men's Basketball Team heads to the RIT Tournament for their next game on Friday, November 21st to play Alfred State. The game begins at 6pm.
