Pittsburgh, PA – The D'Youville men's basketball team was defeated by the La Roche Saturday afternoon, falling to the Redhawks by the final score of 79-66.

La Roche was very good in the early portion of the game, taking a 10-0 lead over D'Youville in the first 2:23. Over the next several minutes, the Spartans began to chip away until Juan Miguel Rosales (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Village School) took over. Trailing 17-8, Rosales scored four straight layups and just like that, D'Youville trailed by one at 17-18. However La Roche would go on to score nine unanswered points, taking a 10-point lead.

With under nine minutes to go in the half, the Spartans began to heat up again. A pair of Darrius Hartzog (Rochester, NY/Wilson Magnet) brought the game to within six at 29-23. Despite pulling the game to single digits, the Redhawks continued to pour on the offense and regained their 10-point lead with 0:45 to go in the half. The two teams would trade layups in the final 0:25 and they would go into halftime with La Roche ahead 45-35.

D'Youville came out in the second half and put the pressure on La Roche. Jake Socha (Tonawanda, NY/Niagara Catholic) scored the first two baskets of the half for the Spartans, followed by a Zach Blask (Portville, NY/Portville) made three and D'Youville's deficit was down to five. With 12:20 to go in the game, Jeremy VanDuluitgaarden (Oneida, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) made it a two-point game after a made layup and the Spartans trailed 56-54.

The two teams would play a tightly contested game over the next several minutes, with the La Roche lead never more than six points away. However with 5:52 remaining on the clock, the Redhawk lead reached double-digits again. Their lead grew to 15 with 1:11 left in the game and would eventually be cut to 13 as La Roche defeated D'Youville by the final score of 79-66.

Rosales led the team in scoring with 14 points off the bench while Socha scored 13 points. Bayani Salinas (Antioch, CA/Antioch) led the team with seven assists to go with his eight points, with Blask and VanDuluitgaarden each added nine points.
