Buffalo, NY - The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) honored the D'Youville men's basketball team for the second time this month, naming three players to the NABC 2016-17 Honors Court.
Senior Mark Jorgensen (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport), junior Will VanAuken (Caledonia, NY/Caledonia-Mumford), and junior Jeremy VanDuluitgaarden (Oneida, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) were the three Spartans who were named to the NABC Honors Court for the 2016-17 academic year. All three players are Exercise and Sports Science/Physical Therapy majors.
In order to qualify for the Honors Court, a student-athlete must be a junior or senior academically and have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) or 3.2 or higher at the end of the 2016-17 academic year. They also must have spent at least one year at their current institution and their institution must be a member of a NCAA Division I, II, or III institution, NAIA Division I or II institution and the head coach must be a NABC member coach.
Each of the three Spartans had strong seasons for D'Youville. Jorgensen scored a season high 10 points against Fredonia State. VanAuken had an outstanding year on the court as he tied for the team lead in rebounds/game with 5.9. When it came to his academics, Will also was a standout as he was named Co-Male Student-Athlete of the Year with a 4.0 GPA.
As for VanDuluitgaarden, the then sophomore finished his second season with the Spartans as an Alleghany Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Third Team All-Conference selection, leading the team with 14.6 points/game and starting all 25 games. His scoring was also seventh in the AMCC in scoring while third on the team in rebounding at 5.4 rebounds/game. He scored double-digits in 22 of 25 games and recorded two double-doubles.
