Greensburg, PA - The D'Youville men's basketball team lost to the Pitt.-Greensburg Bobcats on Saturday afternoon by the final score of 91-73.
Ryan Davis (Darien Center, NY/Alexander) tied the game at six after 3:05 of play on a made jumper as it was an evenly matched game early. A pair of free throws from Simeon Heard (Rochester, NY/Charles Finney) sent the Spartans up by one with their first lead of the game just over a minute later. Both teams would grab their share of the lead as the half went on as each team would begin to heat up from beyond the arc. Grant Beyer (Williamsville, NY/St. Joe's) and Brian Sharp (Newark, NY/Newark) hit back-to-back threes to tie the game at 24, but the Bobcats would grab the lead right back.
The lead would continue to change hands as the half went deeper as back-to-back layups from Devon Darrell (Lockport, NY/Lockport) and Heard put D'Youville up by one at 34-33 with 5:31 to go in the half. At the 1:33 mark, the Bobcats went ahead by two on a made jumper before Darrell drilled a three with 0:04 remaining on the clock to send the Spartans into the half leading 39-38.
In the first several minutes of the second half, Greensburg would start to pull away as they led by six at 48-42. The Spartans would pull back to within one on a Heard made three before the Bobcats would go on a 8-0 run to lead 56-47. That lead grew to 11 several minutes later with Greensburg taking their first double-digit lead of the game.
The Bobcats continued to turn it on as the game went on, growing their lead. D'Youville made every effort to get back in the game, but the men were unable to overcome the second half surge by Greensburg as they fell by the final of 91-73.
Heard led the team with a season-high 20 points, adding four boards and two steals. Darrell scored 13 points off the bench with five rebounds while Sharp scored eight and Beyer added seven with a team-high three assists.
Darrius Hartzog (Rochester, NY/Wilson Magnet) added eight points while Davis scored six. Trey Boling (Tonawanda, NY/St. Joe's) added a pair of points while Noah Denz (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora) scored five.
The next game for the men will be next Saturday as they travel to Penn State-Altoona to play the Lions at 1:00pm.
