Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville men's basketball team suffered a 102-64 loss to the Medaille Mavericks on Wednesday evening.
Medaille came out of the gate strong, leading 10-2 through the first four minutes of the game. As the half went on, the Mavericks would continue to pour it on as they led 23-6 through eight minutes of play. With 10:10 left in the half, Devon Darrell (Lockport, NY/Lockport) would cut their deficit to eight on a made layup to put the Spartans back in the game. However, Medaille would regain their double-digit lead and close out the half as strong as they started, leading 51-30.
It was a similar outcome for both sides in the second half. The Mavericks continued to push the ball as they increased their lead and went on to win the game by the final of 102-64.
Darrell and Darrius Hartzog (Rochester, NY/Wilson Magnet) led the team with 12 points each. Both Juan Miguel Rosales (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Village School) and Grant Beyer (Williamsville, NY/St. Joe's) both narrowly missed double-doubles as the pair scored nine points each while Rosales grabbed eight rebounds and Beyer led the team with nine. Noah Denz (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora) added four points, six rebounds, and a team-high two blocks.
Off the bench, Brian Sharp (Newark, NY/Newark) led the team with six points, three assists, and three steals. Jagdeep Drumgoole (Rochester, NY/Early College) added three rebounds with Wanya Bruce (Rochester, NY/Fairport) scoring four points.
The next game for the men will come on Saturday, December 28 as they men travel to New York City to take on Medgar Evers at 4:00pm. They will then stay in the Big Apple to play a second game at Medgar Evers against a team and time TBA on Sunday, December 29.
