D’Youville men’s basketball head coach Earl Schunk announced Friday the signing of Rodrick Johnson to the Class of 2025, making Johnson the first signee of the program’s Division II era. A native of West Palm Beach, Fla., Johnson will join the Saints for the 2021-22 campaign.
A product of William T Dwyer High School, Johnson helped the Panthers to a 23-5 record and the 7A-District 9 Championship earlier this year, with Johnson being selected to the All-District First Team. The 6-4 wing also earned All-Palm Beach County Second Team honors for the 2019-20 season, and was named the Most Valuable Player at the Palm Beach Holiday Classic.
Johnson wrapped up his junior season at Dwyer averaging 12.6 points per game, including a season-high 23 points against Coral Springs. The Floridian also totaled 7.7 rebounds per game, highlighted by a 17-rebound performance against North Miami and a 13-rebound contest over Westminster Academy. Additionally, Johnson averaged 1.3 assists, 1.2 steals and one block per game during his junior campaign.
Johnson is set to join four other Florida natives on the Saints roster, as junior Tariq Harris, sophomore Bryson Birdsong and freshmen Ryan D’Ali and Jared Sullivan will all suit up for D’Youville this season.
The 2020-21 season will be D’Youville’s first year as a member of NCAA Division II and the East Coast Conference.
