Depew, NY - Wednesday, May 1 marked a day of celebration and recognition for all of D'Youville's student-athletes at the yearly Athletics Awards Banquet at Salvatore's Hospitality.
Head coach Dan Glover, assistant coach Steve Vik, and graduate assistant Taylor Duchon presented the awards to their D'Youville golf team.
Senior Matt Critelli (Camden, NY/Camden) came away from the evening with the team's Most Improved Player award. Critelli participated in six of the eight tournaments in the season with improving scores consistently. His season low came at the host Spartan Shootout where Matt was third amongst D'Youville golfers.
Earning the Spartan Award was junior Tyler Siegmann (Wheatfield, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) as he became one of the team's best golfers. After a rough start to the season, Tyler placed first or second amongst all D'Youville golfers in six consecutive tournaments with two rounds of being the top overall golfer for the men.
Siegmann continued to work hard throughout the season as he shot a season low 84 at the Glen Oak Tournament. It was one of three matches in which he shot in the 80s. Tyler brought a positive work ethic and desire to get better to each practice and tournament. The Spartan Award represents a player who exemplifies teamwork, passion and a dedication to their team.
For the second consecutive season, junior Mackenzie Cox (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon St. Jude) was the team's Most Valuable Player. Cox placed first amongst all D'Youville golfers in every tournament he participated in throughout the season. All but one round of golf for Mackenzie was in the 80s, with his best score coming at the Glen Oak Tournament where he shot an 81 and tied for seventh. The next week at the host Spartan Shootout, Cox won fourth place with a score of 83.
