Second Half Goal Surplus Leads Aloysius Over D'Youville

Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville men's soccer team suffered a loss Saturday afternoon to the visiting Mount Aloysius Mounties by the final score of 4-1.

D'Youville wasted little time opening the scoring. Freshman Rehte Ru (Thailand Refugee Camp/Riverside) lined up for a corner kick and sent a ball in to a charging Marco Ciccarelli (Rochester, NY/Webster-Schroeder) who deflected it over the Mountie goalie for a 1-0 just over three minutes into the game.

Throughout the remainder of the half, Mount Aloysius made several serious attempts to tie the game. Freshman goalkeeper Corey Sikora (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore) made five saves during the duration of the remainder of the half. However with less that three minutes to go in the first, the Mounties tied the game up with a goal and the two teams went into the half tied 1-1.

Mount Aloysius came into the second half building off of their first half momentum. Just 8:56 into the second, the Mounties took their first lead of the game with cross into the box that was finished for a goal.

As the half progressed, the Mounties continued to bring waves of attacks. They broke though again in the 85th minute to make the game 3-1. With just :17 seconds to go in the game, Mount Aloysius found the back of the goal for a fourth time for their final goal, winning the game by the score of 4-0.

Ciccarelli scored his first collegiate goal in the game, taking over the second spot on the team in points. Fellow freshman Hunter Sherman (Lockport, NY/Lockport) had a team high four shots.

On defense, Josh Hammer (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) was a constant, breaking up passes, winning 50-50 balls and being disruptive to several Mountie attacks. Sikora made nine saves in net.

D'Youville will host the Pitt.-Greensburg Bobcats next Saturday, October 15th after a week of rest. The game will begin at 4:15pm.
