Buffalo, NY – For the second straight season, one player on the D'Youville men's soccer team has set himself apart as one of the conference's best.
Sophomore Josh Hammer (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) was selected as an AMCC Third Team All-Conference player, announced the conference on Wednesday. Hammer was the leader of the D'Youville men's soccer team in 2016, playing and starting all 17 games this season at center back.
Throughout the season, Hammer was the heart of the team's defense. Josh has the ability to win a ball in the air but also stop players one-on-one. He controls the defense through his presence and vocal leadership.
On set pieces, Hammer is a major aerial threat and it showed this season with a career high nine shots. On October 15th against Pitt.-Greensburg, Hammer scored the game winning goal with 2:45 remaining in the game to give the Spartans a big win.
Josh also did not receive a single yellow or red card the entire season. He is the youngest captain in program history as a sophomore.
As a freshman in 2015, Josh played and started in all 17 games, the only player on the team to do so. He scored one goal and had one assist, earning a Third Team All-Conference selection. He is the first freshman in program history to be named to an all-conference team.
