Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville men's soccer team suffered a 6-0 loss to the Nazareth Golden Flyers on Saturday afternoon at Dobson Field.
Nazareth pounced early on the Spartans, scoring a pair of goals in the first seven minutes of play. Late in the first half, Hunter Sherman (Lockport, NY/Lockport) had a scoring opportunity only to have the Golden Flyer goalie make a save. The score would remain 2-0 throughout the half and the teams went into halftime with the same score.
The Golden Flyers added a third goal to begin the second half, increasing their lead to 3-0 in the 55th minute. Just over 10 minutes later, they added their fourth goal off a corner kick. In the 71st minute, a shot off the crossbar found its way to the feet of a Nazareth player as the Golden Flyers scored another goal to make it 5-0. With under 10 minutes remaining in the game, Nazareth would score their final goal of the game to make it 6-0.
Sherman led the team with three shots, all on goal. Jake Lowalewski (Attica, NY/Attica) added two shots and Matt Davis (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) added one. In goal, Juan Rosales (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Village School) made his first appearance for the team by making one save in just over 19 minutes of action.
The next game for the Spartans comes this Friday, September 15 as they travel to Alfred State. Game time is 7:00pm.
