Buffalo, NY - The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) released their men's soccer preseason poll on Tuesday morning with the D'Youville men's soccer team expected to make a repeat playoff appearance.
D'Youville finished 2017 as the sixth seed in the AMCC playoffs after an impressive end to the season. The men went 3-0-1 in their final four games to reach the playoffs for the second time under head coach Brendan Murphy. In the first round of the AMCC playoffs, the men fell to Medaille, but held the eventual conference champions to just one goal that was scored in overtime.
Two all-conference players came from last seasons playoff run in forward Hunter Sherman (Lockport, NY/Lockport) and center back Josh Hammer (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home). With both returning and a large crop of freshmen coming into the squad, the team will have an excellent chance to repeat as playoff participants.
Penn State-Behrend is expected to take the top spot in the AMCC this season, with the Mavericks right behind them anxious to earn back-to-back titles. Mount Aloysius (3), La Roche (4), and Franciscan (5) are all solid teams that can pose a threat to crack the top-two with the Spartans (6) well in that mix.
The full preseason poll - including top 10 ranking, players to watch, and preseason awards - can be found on the AMCC website.
D'Youville will begin their season this Saturday, September 1 as they travel to Utica to play at 5:00pm.
