Rochester, NY – The D'Youville men's soccer team lost their second game of the season on Saturday evening, going down to the host Nazareth Golden Flyers by the final of 3-1.
Nazareth struck quickly with a goal in the 5th minute for a 1-0 lead. Just over 10 minutes later in the 17th minute, the Golden Flyers doubled their lead to take control of the game. D'Youville didn't have much luck getting scoring chances in the half until the final five minutes where the men had three shots and a corner kick. However all of their chances were denied and the teams went into the half with Nazareth leading 2-0.
The Spartans came out in the second half and immediately changed the game. A cross from Josh Hammer (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) found the head of new acquisition Brian Nwaekeke (Corona, CA/John F. Kennedy) for his first career goal and made the game 2-1.
Following the Spartans goal, the men struggled on offense. In the 68th minute, Nazareth reclaimed their goal to make the score 3-1. The goal put D'Youville in a deeper hole that they were unable to get themselves out of and the Spartans fell to the Golden Flyers 3-1.
Goalkeeper Kyle Dick (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) made seven saves in the game. Nwaekeke led the team with three shots, two shots on goal, and a goal. Khaled Numan-Ali (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheekowaga), Jake Kowalewski (Attica, NY/Attica), and Jack Schmittendorf (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) each had shots on goal in the game.
The next game for D'Youville comes this Thursday, September 13 as the men host Alfred State for their home opener. Game time at Dobson Field is 7:00pm.
