Steubenville, OH - The D'Youville men's soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss to the Franciscan Barons on Saturday afternoon, firmly remaining in the playoff pictures.
Neither team had much on offense to open the first half as they combined for five shots through the first 30 minutes. Franciscan then capitalized on one of their opportunities in the 36th minute to take a 1-0 lead. That would be the only goal of the half as the Barons led at halftime 1-0.
The game's intensity picked up in the second half with both teams getting shots on goal through the first 15 minutes of action. D'Youville then began taking control of the game. From the 76th minute to the 83rd minute, the Spartans had two corner kicks and five shots on goal to put the pressure on the Baron's defense. Despite nearly tying the game up at 1-1, the Spartans would surrender a goal to Franciscan in the 84th minute off a corner. D'Youville was unable to recover, falling 2-0.
Kyle Dick (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) recorded eight saves for the men in the game. Hunter Sherman (Lockport, NY/Lockport), Jake Kowalewski (Attica, NY/Attica), and AJ Wade (Pendleton, NY/Starpoint) led the team with three shots each, all three of which were on goal for Kowalewski and Wade.
The next game for the men will come this Tuesday, October 23 as they host the Penn State-Behrend Lions at 7:15pm in their final game of the regular season.
