Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville men's soccer team concluded their 2018 regular season on Tuesday evening, falling to the Penn State-Behrend Lions 3-0.
Behrend built their lead rather quickly in the game, scoring their first goal in the 11th minute on a close finish in the box. They then doubled their lead in the 15th minute off a low, hard screened shot from outside the box. The Lions would get several chances throughout the remainder of the half, but none were high quality scoring opportunities. D'Youville would remain down by two heading into the half 2-0.
The Lions struck again in the 55th minute to make the score 3-0. D'Youville would get a few chances late in the game with none being better than a left-footed bullet by Marco Ciccarelli (Webster, NY/Webster-Schroeder) in the 88th minute that would be saved by the Behrend keeper. D'Youville would go on to fall to Behrend by the final score of 3-0.
Kyle Dick (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) made six saves in the game as the team limited to high-powered Behrend offense to just nine shots on goal. The Spartans had some success on offense as well, tallying eight shots total. AJ Wade (Pendleton, NY/Starpoint), Hunter Sherman (Lockport, NY/Lockport), and Brian Nwaekeke (Corona, CA/John F. Kennedy) each had two shots in the game with Josh Hammer (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) and Ciccarelli recording one each.
With the regular season coming to a close, the men now know their seeding and opponent for the postseason. D'Youville will be the five-seed in the AMCC playoffs that begin this Saturday. They will travel the the fourth seeded Franciscan to play the Barons at 2:00pm.
