Bluffton, OH - The D'Youville men's soccer team suffered a come from behind loss in their first road game of the season on Friday afternoon as they fell to the Bluffton Beavers by the final score of 2-1.
D'Youville played well out of the gate as they possessed the ball well and started to generate chances on goal. It wasn't before long that the Spartans would convert an opportunity as Hunter Sherman (Lockport, NY/Lockport) dribble across the box and went back across his body with a low, hard left footed shot that beat the Bluffton keeper in the seventh minute for quick 1-0 lead.
For a good portion of the half following Sherman's second goal of the season the Spartans maintained possession and created numerous scoring opportunities. However, the Beavers would hold strong and begin to regain their composure as they would generate numerous scoring opportunities themselves. Then, in the 36th minute, Bluffton tied the game and would send the game into halftime with the score 1-1.
After two early Beaver chances to begin the second half, D'Youville would turn up the heat and generate four chances in a three-minute span. Again Bluffton would withstand the Spartan attack and turn the tides as they took the lead in the 63rd minute, heading up 2-1.
As the half wore down, the intensity rose from both sides with chances coming left and right. D'Youville would have one final chance to tie the game in the 86th minute as Chris Irakoze (Buffalo, NY/Middle Early College) vollied a shot that hit the crossbar, but stayed out of the net. The Beaveres would hold on to win the game 2-1, giving the Spartans their first loss of the season.
Khaled Numan-Ali (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) picked up his first assist of the season on Sherman's goal as Sherman and HsaKlo Moo (Riverside, NY/McKinley) each tallying a pair of shots on goal. Kyle Dick (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) made his first start of the season in net as he made four saves.
