Oberlin, OH - The D'Youville men's soccer team ended their Ohio road trip on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Oberlin Yeomen by the final score of 6-2.
It was a back-and-forth contest to begin the game as each team traded chances. The Spartans would put a series of dangerous chances together and their third chance in four minutes found the back of the net as Nick Dumond (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) scored his first as a Spartan to give the men a 1-0 lead.
Just over a minute later in the 18th minute, Oberlin answered with their first goal of the game as the score was tied 1-1. D'Youville would earn some dangerous chances towards the end of the half as Hunter Sherman (Lockport, NY/Lockport) and Khaled Numan-Ali (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) had shots blocked, but they couldn't find their way through. However in the 45th minute, the Yeomen were able to convert a penalty kick and go into halftime leading 2-1.
Just over three minutes into the second half, Oberlin added another goal to their total as they extended their lead to 3-1. The next two goals would again come from the Yeomen as their lead extended to 5-1.
D'Youville cut their deficit to three at 5-2 with a Marco Ciccarelli (Rochester, NY/Webster-Schroeder) goal in the 86th minute. Much like they did in the first half, the Yeomen answered the Spartan's goal in the next minute to bring the game to the final score of 6-2.
Sherman led the team with nine shots in the game while Ciccarelli tallied three. Numan-Ali picked up his second assist in as many games while Kyle Dick (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) made eight saves in the game.
The Spartans will next play this Tuesday, September 10 at Wells at 4:30pm.
