Erie, PA - The D'Youville men's soccer team faced off against the No. 12 Penn State-Behrend Lions on Tuesday afternoon, falling to the Lions by the final score of 4-0.
On the very first shot of the game, the Lions took the lead. Just 2:09 into the game, Behrend went ahead of the Spartans and the Lions looked to increase their lead.
Despite surrendering the early goal, D'Youville locked it down on both ends of the field to give the nationally ranked Lions trouble. Within six minutes after the goal, the Spartans forced three saves from the Lion's goalkeeper as D'Youville would not back down from their opponents.
Each team had their fair share of chances as the half went on, but the Lions would turn it on in attempt to increase their lead. However both defenses stood firm as Behrend led at halftime 1-0.
Just over 10 minutes into the second, Behrend would take control of the game with a pair of goals in the 57th and 60th minutes. An own goal in the 68th minute would spell the end for the Spartans as the Lions remained undefeated by taking down the Spartans 4-0.
Nick Dumond (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) led the team with two shots in the game while Jake Kowalewski (Attica, NY/Attica), Chris Irakoze (Caen, France/Middle Early College), and Noah Steele (Heuvelton, NY/Heuvelton) all had one. Kyle Dick (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) made eight saves in the game.
D'Youville will next play at Pitt.-Greensburg this Saturday, October 5 at 2:00pm.
